The city of Lausanne is set on the banks of Lake Geneva and has been the Olympic Capital since 1994. The city has many facets, museums and floral quays or shopping and nightlife, it caters to many tastes. The historical highlight of a weekend tour to the city would be the Cathedral.
As with many cities in Switzerland, when towns were settled, religion came first and many churches and cathedrals occupy central points in the towns. This gothic monument attracts almost 400 thousand visitors a year and is a testament to twelfth and thirteenth century construction. If religion is the flavour you crave, Lausanne is surrounded by UNESCO listed Lavaux terraced vineyards with tastings often conducted on walks through the vines.
